Had to get it just to hear Kimberley Locke

I have always been a huge fan of Kimberely Locke and once again a beautiful song....

Not Quite Ultimate...

This cd, the fourth holiday solo from Dave Koz isn't exactly ultimate. The cd, while boasting an 18 track playlist, clocks in at an hour and leaves room for more tracks that for some reason overlooked. One glaring omission for me is Dave's "December Makes Me Feel This Way" the title track from his first album featuring Dave's singing. That song is played on the radio every year and for me is evoking of the holiday mood. Dave's second holiday album featured guest vocalists Brenda Russell and Kenny Loggins, Kenny covered Dave's "December Makes Me Feel This Way" and while Kenny is a more accomplished vocalist the emotional impact of his reading dosn't hold the same connection. Dave's third cd is a collection of the two previous albums with a few new tracks for filler and this cd is a collection of all three projects with a couple of new recordings. The Kimberley Locke track is one not to be overlooked and I'm sure that song will get lots of airplay. "Auld Lang Syne" is from Dave's first album and the version here is edited down from six minutes. Overall this cd is a nice summary of his work and is produced by Dave himself, I just wish he was a bit more generous with the track listing.

Genre: Jazz

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

The latest contender for the instrumental pop saxophone throne, Dave Koz came out of nowhere after his self-titled 1990 release made it onto the Billboard contemporary jazz charts and stayed there several weeks. He has more fire and intensity in his work than Kenny G, and often sounds like a reworked David Sanborn. Koz also played on Arsenio Hall's show, which increased his popularity among the urban contemporary, light jazz, and pop audiences. Koz plays instrumental pop covers and some upbeat tunes,...
