Hip City!
The Temptations were great and the Supremes were sweet, but if you just wanted to DANCE and PARTY then Jr. Walker was the MAN. Starting in '65, his gruff voice and wailing sax came to define Motown's version of "funky soul". Essential stuff! Peace.
Why he's a Walker...
Just so you know...The guy who sings and plays sax is named Autry DeWalt II,he was nick-named "Junior Walker" when he was gifted a second-hand pair of shoes that were too large, but greatly appreciated. As he would walk around his neighborhood in his "new" shoes, he was tagged with the line,"There goes Junior Walker", Junior because he was named after his father,Walker 'cause that's what he did in his "new" shoes!
The Ultimate Collection: Junior Walker+ The Allstars
This is an excellent album. Recommend to all that like Mr. Walker's sax style. Favorite song is What Does It Take (To Win Your Love). I heard Mr. Walker in concert at Lackland AFB and his album sounded just like he did in person. This is album is a great piece of work!
