Album Review

It's not quite the ultimate, but it's close. A Teena Marie album that doesn't include "Déjà Vu (I've Been Here Before)," "Dear Lover," and "Out on a Limb" doesn't merit the ultimate tag, but still, there are plenty of goodies. The soulful Lady T will bring you to tears on "Young Love," "My Dear Mr. Gaye," and "Irons in the Fire"; she remains as effective on upbeat rockers like "I Need Your Lovin'," "Work It," and "Square Biz." The album also includes her biggest charting single "Lovergirl," the exotic "Portuguese Love," and her career-blossoming hit with Rick James, "I'm a Sucker for Your Love."

imitated, but could never duplicated!!!

I always felt Teena was a classical case of musical reverse discrimination, accepted whole heartedly by the black masses and totally ignored by the white masses. One true woman that showed her soul was full of fire and never stopped lighting it up! While some was living, breathing, eating and sleeping Madonna, in my book it was always Teena, in concert she "kills it" where you will be thinking of her for months to come. but one thing, if you ever decide to purchase "fire & desire", be sure the song is at least 7:19 minutes long, if not, just when the song begins to scorch (it has been known for), it abruptly ends!!!

"The Greatest White Soul Singer!!!!!"

While everyone has been praising Annie Lennox and George Micheal for years, Teena Marie is R&B/Soul to the vocal bone! She was around before them and she can still put on one helluva show to this day! This is blue-eyed soul at its best and it comes from no other than, Teena Marie and the industry needs to gives props to her and not Amy Winehouse's notagalic antics!

Portuguese Love

Teena Marie is a prodigy artist, with limitless essence to her work. I have been following Teena Marie since 1980 when she was on Gordy Records. All her albums were excellent unfortunately she had the battle with her label for royalties and with the R & B community for acceptance and recognition. Which hinder her from being a grammy award winning artist. Her song Portugese Love, Aladdin's Lamp, Now That I have You are beautiful song's that top Fire and Desire. Another good song of her's is Cassanova Brown, check that out as well.

No white artist sang R&B more convincingly than Teena Marie, whose big, robust vocals were so black-sounding that when she was starting out, some listeners wondered if she was a light-skinned African-American. Marie grew up in west Los Angeles in a neighborhood that was nicknamed "Venice Harlem" because of its heavy black population. The singer/songwriter/producer was in her early twenties when, around 1977, she landed a job at Motown Records. It was at Motown that she met her mentor and paramour-to-be,...
