Replacing your signature sound... A good thing?

Realistically, if it were possible on this site, I would've given this EP a 4.5 out of 5, but I rounded up just to be nice. While this small collection retains the quirky side of Straylight Run introduced on The Needles The Space, it lacks what previous releases of this band brought with gusto: atmosphere. Each song prior to Un Mas Dos was a rich, grandiose masterpiece, no matter how rough (Take It to Manhattan) or how meek (The Perfect Ending) the song sounded. These three songs are fun to listen to and sing along with (despite the bleak lyrics), but they don't draw me in the way their debut did. I didn't think the departure of one member who essentially did the same things her brother does would have this kind of effect, or maybe Straylight Run wants to go for a more electronic sound that thousands of other bands have adopted. Either way, it sounds great, just don't expect to get chills.

Great!!!!

Even without Michelle, Straylight can still provide some beautiful indie pop. All three songs are amazing and "Try" is up there with "Hands in the Sky", "Dignity and Money", and "First of the Century". This is a great EP and a taste for what this flawless band have in store for us on their next album. Can't wait to see what they'll record next!

What a transformation!

I've been with this band ever since I saw their 'Existentialism on Prom Night' video on a Victory Records artist sampler. It is amazing to listen to all their albums and see how they've experimented with their music and continued to improve theirselves as artists. As much as the departure of Michelle was a disappointment, I'm very proud of the work they've done in Un Mas Dos. My favorite song would have to be Ten Ton Shoes, because I love the lyrics at the end: I'm a bug on its back, kickin' legs in the air/ On a sidewalk in a city somewhere/ Seconds from thundering steps and ten ton shoes'. Not only is the mp3 'cover' amazing, but the direction they're going in this new EP is promising, and I absolutely can't wait for more!

In the early 2000s, emo rock outfit Taking Back Sunday was steadily gaining popularity among a new generation of punk rock fans, due in part to the dynamic songwriting and vocal team of Adam Lazzara and John Nolan. However, as their powerful debut, Tell All Your Friends, kept gaining momentum, restlessness among bandmembers grew as well, leading to the eventual departure of guitarist/vocalist Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper. Regrouping together under the name Straylight Run, the two completed the...
