Genya's Back!!!!!
The long awaited new recording from Genya Ravan, Undercover is an eclectic collection of which stretch across both time and genre as the legendary stylist brings new voice to fifteen of her favorite songs. Joining her are a number of friends including Elliott Randall, Ian Mclagan, Nile Rodgers, Lenny Kaye and old pal Felix Cavaliere who joins Genya for a soulful version Lowell George’s “Long Distance Love”. Also included is a brand new studio version of Genya’s own beautifully haunting autobiographical “202 Rivington Street”.
Nice Composite
Nice blend of R&B, blues and rock. Especially like the full, rich covers of Little Feat and Petty. Even a bit of 60s rock pops up once in a while. Something old & something new. I like it - give it a listen. Refreshing to see something besides techo-loops hip-hop on iTunes. Wish there was an easier way to burn to disk than creating a playlist to match the cover art.
Worth The Wait
The 10 Wheel Drive vet has delivered an 18 wheeler whose cargo is safe at every speed she chooses. Maturity has ripened Ravan's talents. No one has the emotional range of Genya Ravan, whether singing her own songs or the works of others. The proof is the star-studded cast who accompanies her and graciously lends their talents to this masterpiece. The exquisite covers she has chosen will either tear your heart out while you sway and swoon and then make you groove and jounce. "I Who Have Nothing" will make you long to comfort her. The final autobiographical track, the only one Ravan inked, will haunt you. Her book, "Lollipop Lounge," will provide the insight to the orientations of her soul; a soul that tastefully bleeds into everything she sings. I guess by this time you know I'm a longtime fan. So I plea: Genya, don't make us wait this long again.
