Album Review

Another unlikely pop singer to hop aboard the indiscriminate good ship Storchaveli, Brooke Hogan — it's just "Brooke" henceforth, or at least for the time being — is stuck in a phase where she's too young to be convincing as a vixen and too old to relate to younger teenagers. Lead single "About Us" tells you more than you need to know. "I'm just tryin' to live, but you're all up in my grill/How's a girl to breathe with the media staring down my mouth with a four-inch lens/I just wanna hit the mall with some of my friends." This is delivered with a Beyoncé-aping flow in a voice that resembles an exaggerated (or piercing) version of Gwen Stefani. Produced mostly by Scott Storch (everybody), the comparisons to Paris Hilton's album are inevitable, even though the two celebrities-turned-singers are at different stages in their lives. Hilton's album effectively rides on the entitled heiress persona that dozens of middle-class singers have attempted before, whereas Undiscovered sounds exactly like the kind of album made by the teenaged Floridian daughter of a professional wrestler. Brooke tries hard to be authentic and taken seriously, and though some of the material is mildly enjoyable, the batch of productions she is given is noticeably weak when they're stacked up against the tracks on Paris. Brooke does drop the seriousness on the throwaway finale, but it doesn't fare any better. Anyone who knows War's "Low Rider" will likely flinch at the sight of the track's title; sure enough, "Low Rider Jeans" adopts some of the words and all of the notes of its chorus: "Low rider jeans hug a little tighter."

Wow! Paris made another album?Jk

Honestly, Brooke does have an amazing voice. However, it lacks vocal performance. Allow me to explain. For some reason all the pop divas out there are taking, sex sells, to an all time low. Every song from Paris' Turn it up to Jessica's new album does not showcase true talent. Brooke, Your voice on the songs for a moment and Beautiful transformation is fantastic A+ singing. You dont have to resort to the cheap tricks of Paris Hilton's infamous heavy breathing and whisper voice. You have talent, dont hold back!!!

A Stable and Worthy Album

Brooke Hogan has certain made a name for herself with this album. Each song has unique flair and show the talent of Brooke to most of her potential. "About Us" being the first single was a good choice because of it's nice beat and less-than-novelty more-than-simple words lyrics. "Heaven Baby" is an okay track, but her vocals seem somewhat unbelievable because of the high pitches and abnormal yet catchy beat. "Next Time" seemed very much for novelty with somewhat of a Beyoncé "For A Moment" is a very nice ballad and shows an appealing side of Brooke through her singing and the purity of the music. "My Space" is an okay track, but it isn't too bad. Possibly one of the tracks you could get tired of listening to after a while. "All About Me" has a Paris Hilton flair because it seems similar to "Nothin' In This World". Not too attractive, but it averages better than Paris Hilton's song. "My Number" is a track with a good beat and subpar lyrics. Clichéd lines come to mind. "Beautiful Transformation" is a very nice track with a nice beat and pretty good lyrics. Simplicity of Brooke herself at an all time high. "One Sided" is a good track, but lyrically deficit because of clichéd lines and the vocals aren't too pleasurable. "Letting Go" is a good track to just lounge to, but the beat seems overused yet the lyrics are unique. "Dancing Alone" is a nice track to dance to but somewhat lacking in the lyrics department. Nox helps out a bit in the song, but it could have stood on its own feet with just Brooke. "Love You, Hate You" has somewhat of an old style in-a-good-way beat and lyrically stable. "Incognito" doesn't seem to fit in well with the rest of the album, but it was a pretty good track to listen to. Lyrically okay, beat somewhat clichéd. "Low Rider Jeans" is very unique and is based on the song "Low Rider". It isn't the best track, possibly the weakest track on the album. All in all, a stable album and it is worth listening to. Four stars.

Great talent being wasted!

I'm a little disappointed with this album. Brooke has a beautiful voice. Her album could have been fantastic. Unfortunately, everything is way too over-produced. There are really no songs that show off her voice. On many of the songs, the sound effects in the music cover her voice. Maybe on her next album she should concentrate on show casing her talent rather than worrying about all the other things.
