iTunes Review

A British rock band fronted by former Verve singer Richard Ashcroft, RPA & The United Nations of Sound is a solid group that performs with a serious authority not to be dismissed with a casual listen. It takes a seasoned pro like Ashcroft to put across the tender aggression of “This Thing Called Life.” Steve Wyreman’s guitars are crucial to the sound, providing extensive wah-wah workouts that add a glimmer of early-‘70s freakout, while Benjamin Wright’s string arrangements on “Good Lovin’” and “Glory” permit the group entrance into baroque pop and ‘70s soul. Ashcroft adds delicious attitude to “Third Eye” where he tosses out a fine nod to his hero, Mick Jagger. Ashcroft’s facility with classic rock poses and adventurous new terrain gives the tracks an unusual depth that demands proper attention.

a true genuis

RA has always been a gifted songwriter and this album is an amazing extension of that talent. With No ID's hip hop sound of big beats and throbbing bass lines lingering in the background, Ashcroft's singular voice comes alive. There seems to be a greater sense of urgency than every before. He is indeed traveling through new waters here, but as a life long fan of his work with The Verve and his solo outings, I think his adventurous spirit remains on fire. Stand out tracks are This Thing Called Love, She Brigs the Music, and the album closer Let My Soul Rest which is one of his best tunes to date...

The King is Back

Richard..is Back...and Freakin Awesome....One of The Best Albums in the Past 5 years. The Man is Fantastic.!!!!!!!

I love his voice!

There is something very haunting and Jim Morrison about him. I have been a loyal follower since The Verve. Richard has what is lacking in a lot of music today, soul. Do us a favor and never stop making music!

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

As the frontman for the epic British drone-pop band the Verve, Richard Ashcroft proved himself the spiritual descendant of rock & roll icons like Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison — rivetingly charismatic, menacingly serpentine, and possessed of an almost shamanic intensity, he embraced and articulated the anthemic fervor of rock music with a power and eloquence unparalleled by any of his contemporaries. Ashcroft was born September 11, 1971, in the Wigan suburb of Billinge, attending Upholland...
