Album Review
Released in concert with Jorn's other early-2007 album, The Gathering, Unlocking the Past refines and extended the concept of that album, which found the Norwegian power metal singer reinterpreting material from his own early solo albums. Unlocking the Past, however, is an album of classic rock covers. As a result, this has the feeling of a heck of a fan club release that is not likely to be of much interest beyond devoted Jorn fans. The songs themselves are fine, and indeed in some cases impressively obscure. But hard rock fans wanting to hear "Feel Like Makin' Love" want to hear Bad Company do it — and similarly for fans of Thin Lizzy ("Cold Sweat"), Black Sabbath ("Lonely Is the Word/Letters from Earth"), Whitesnake ("Fool for Your Loving"), and the other acts saluted on this entirely adequate but fundamentally pointless covers project.

Jorn knows how to serve up the past!!
What a tribute! Jorn can sing the whole Blackmore/Dio/Coverdale genre with fury. Of course, it is hard to cover the God of Rock vocals (Dio), but Jorn does a great tribute with the Lonely is the Word... etc... mix. Great covers... Jorn keeps it alive!
JORN DELIVERS
Unlocking the Past done by power vocalist Jorn has many great tracks and is one of best covers albums I have heard for some time now. Fool for Your Loving, Lonely Is the Word, Feel Like Making Love and Perfect Strangers are some of my favorites.
I highly recommend this if your a fan of rock & roll
I was at my local cd store & a friend of mine (the assistant manager) had ordered this cd because he liked it. I didn't even know who this was until I asked him because I assumed it was Whitesnake (fool for your loving) when the store was playing the disc. I didn't catch it until I heard Naked City, realizing that Whitesnake has yet to remake the KISS classic, the sound was almost an exact match of the original from KISS Unmasked, Fool For Your Loving was the same result. My friend's not a very big KISS fan (he's a huge Whitesnake & Motorhead fan). He likes Jorn's version of both songs better than the original versions. I suggest you pick this up if your a fan of classic and/or hard rock. I know I am going to!
