Lurv It.
These four songs, paired with Jay's contribution to the Shortbus soundtrack ("Soda Shop"), mark the arrival of a fun, irreverent, and witty songwriter. Jay's lack of formal guitar training allows for surprising "outside the box" compositions with interesting arrangements that will constantly surprise. A melancholy undertone is a staple of Brannan's songwriting but that doesn't make for a morose listening experience. "Soda Shop" will have you bopping around to a recount of an alcoholic relapse, and "Half-Boyfriend" is a sweetly arranged ditty about fighting the fall into love/half-love/accepting love. Brannan's voice is at once somber and soaring - you get the feeling these mellow compositions do not showcase half of his vocal power. Hopefully future releases will find him exploring greater highs and lows, vocally and otherwise.
Sweet, Soft, and Sexy!
Jay Brannan's music creates an soft intriguing and sexy reflection that makes you want to never stop listening! Certainly Jay is one of those great up and coming artists, that I can only hope to hear more from, as the exploration of his voice and lyrics continue to produce joy, connection and pure bliss!
A Sensual Journey
This album is amazing. From the start of the first song to the conclusion of the last, Jay grabs you and demands that you sit and listen to what he has to say. With his haunting chords and angelic voice, two forces are brought together to invoke the hidden emotions that are just waiting to surface. Listening to his album and all of the other beautiful songs that he has written, I have come to the realization that this journey that he has taken me on is only beginning. I can’t wait to hear more from this wonderful, beautiful, talented and soulful man.
