A guitar master...

What can you say about EJ that hasn't already been said? He's a guitar master, one of the greatest guitarists to ever pick up the instrument...

On Up Close, EJ returns to his Austin, TX roots, with the album having more of a blues-oriented feel to it. There aren't any jazz type songs on this record. Standout instrumental songs include Fatdaddy, GEM and Vortexan. Gem alone makes this album worth purchasing, it's one of the best instrumentals EJ has ever created. Standout vocal songs include Austin, Texas and A Change Has Come to Me. Texas is a straight on blues number that sounds like a nod to SRV. A Change Has Come to Me sounds like something inspired by his work on the Hendrix Tour.

If you like guitar or blues, or just appreciate a master craftsman at work, check out this album.

Eric Johnson is the man!!!

Eric Johnson is from The Great State of Texas, born and raised, and being from Texas myself I am proud to say this album Rocks!!! Keep up the great work Eric! ...... from Canada, Ha ha ha!!! what a dope.

Tone Monster

Very few musical artists achieve a true signature style — one that makes comparisons to other musicians impossible. But Texas guitarist Eric Johnson arguably comes as close to this echelon as any musician from the past quarter-century. Like fellow Lone Star State guitarists Johnny Winter, Billy Gibbons, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnson blends the rock style of Jimi Hendrix and the blues power of Albert King. Yet Johnson's wide...
