One word: Maturity!
Soulive has left their extravagant dynamics on the backburner for this album. They have opened up their sound to leave quite a bit of room for anything to happen. The Shady Horns ,and phat drum beats from allen keep the beats rolling along with neil's ever-changing modal bass lines, hammond sustains ,and wahwah clav. This album is such a change , I think it will take some time to get used to the new sound, but I am just glad they didn't lose their soul, and love from improv. Vocals are also a step up from "break out", and " No place like soul." Make sure you see them soon!
Great album
Soulive is definitely back with this album. Can't wait to start hearing them perform this live. I think they made sure they did this one right. Even the album art is tight.
