The Strongest of the Early "Up With People" Albums

I had this album on vinyl until it got scratched and popped into unplayability...it's good to have a clean recording available. This is the best of the early UWP albums released by their in-house studio, Pace Records, while UWP was still a outreach of Moral Re-Armament. The album represents a transition from the strongly patriotic and semi-religious shows (e.g., "Ride of Paul Revere," "You Can't Live Crooked and Think Straight," "Joan of Arc," etc.) to a more world-centric view. The engineering is much better than "The Sing-Out Musical" and "Up With People in Hollywood" -- well-balanced with a very big and open sound that feels like being at a performance. I love the cover art -- and dig the guys playing the Fender Malibu acoustic guitars! For the most part, the music and performances are quite strong. "Ashes" is one of the best songs UWP ever performed and I don't think had the respect it deserved. The monologue on "In New York City" was dated even when the song was first released and it seems almost quaint now. I don't particularly like the version of "Man's Gotta Go Somewhere" on this album -- later recordings are a lot better. Note that "Is There a Reason Why?" on this album is the same recording as on "Up With People in Hollywood." It's good to have the Up With People catalog available again; however, it would be nice to have the featured performer(s) and composer(s) of each song noted in the track information. I'm sure this information is available from Up With People's corporate offices (or from folks who still have the original albums and/or sheet music) and would give proper recognition to some excellent songwriters and exceptional talents.

This brings back so many memories!!!! What a great time we had dancing around the living room with this album!!! Singing was, and still is, our family's greatest pasttime.

Up With People III

Hurray! I heard Up With People in jr high back in 1968. I'm so happy they've released their albums! My favorite has always been Colorado! Hmmm Maybe since Colorado is home? You bet! and Up With People is energetic and fun to listen to! Thank-you!
