Recoil Review
"Aggressive post-hardcore music hasn't had an original voice in a long time. Not in as long as there have been bands content to have singers who get them on MTV by sounding exactly the same. That's not La Dispute. From beginning to end their vocalist sounds like he's teetering dangerously close to the edge, candidly and clearly expressing his fears and faults without resorting to meathead meltdowns or pop-friendly choruses. Appropriately, the band rides just as dangerously on the cymbals, letting its crashes control their bouts of guitar tension." - Eric Mitts, Recoil
Intense!!!!
Very good album, even better live. These guys will blow you away. They are out of Grand Rapids, MI. Incredible musicians and a poet with a set of lungs behind the mic. I highly recomend this album.
If you like energy and emotion, prepare for over-stimulation.
La Dispute is easily one of my favorite bands. They put a ridiculous amount of energy and emotion into their music that you can feel the sweat and tears when just listening to their CD. And while the CD itself is phenomenal, their live performances are even better. Jordan Dreyer (vocals), Adam Kool (bass), Chad Sterenberg (guitar), Brad Vander Lugt (Drums), and Kevin Whittemore (guitar) are excellent performers, and their energy spills over into their audience. Even the most introverted people can’t help but sing, scream, mosh, boogie, and/or clap rhythmically when this band is on stage. One would think that these guys would be exhausted after each and every performance, but they can keep on going all night long. When talking to Jordan after playing their second show of the night, and after having traveled a good distance between the two shows to go onstage as soon as they arrived at Skelletones in Grand Rapids, I asked him how they managed to have such a great, energetic second show after having put all they have into their first show. “It’s hard not to have energy when the crowd in singing every word to your songs.” La Dispute makes their concerts into a reciprocal energy-fest. My friends, take a listen to La Dispute and enjoy musical excellence. And if you have the chance, go to one of their shows, sing along, dance, and have the time of your life.
