What a spectacular release from a spectacular new band!

Right from their signing to Fueled By Ramen, I knew I had to check this band out, and it's a decision I certainly haven't regretted. VersaEmerge is a very promising young band, comprised of five young people. This new EP is absolutely phenomenal. If you're still skeptical, listen to this EP in full on their MySpace. It really is amazing. This is a must-have! You'll love it! Oh, and for the record, Paramore is beyond incredible as well, but comparing these two bands and putting VersaEmerge is a waste of time. It's pointless. You might as well admit they're both amazing, and go on listening to them happily. You'll feel better about it.

Since The Clocks First Tick

VersaEmerge is one of the best new bands is ready to explode. With haunting female vocals, a lovely backing male vocalist, great music, and deep killer lyrics, it's no wonder why they've gained popularity quickly. Theatrics is a wonderful (but short) intro, beautifully written and flows seamlessly into The Hider, a very haunting beginning. For maximum effect listen to this EP without the shuffle and hear how perfectly Theatrics leads into The Hider. The Hider showcases everything great about this band, the female and backing male vocals, the insightful lyrics and killer music. In my opinion the best track on the EP, "We're drawn to be what we wish to see." Past Praying For features more guitar and a catchy chorus again the lyrics are really the highlight, "I wouldn't want to wake you from yourself." Moments Between Sleep is musical explosion of awesomeness (yeah I know not a word) but the synthesizers, violins, and guitars meld perfectly. "In this cities callowness we've lost our innocence." Whisperer has a pretty catchy tune, and features the most male vocals, it's the song you will be most likely humming and singing. "We were lit from the west, our silhouettes, yet a sight of industrial-ness" The new version of Clocks is a nice blend of synthesizers and acoustic goodness. Sierra’s voice really shines in this track, and these are the best lyrics on the whole EP. "Call the wind a thief for stealing their prayers." The only downside of this release is the album art, Perceptions (their earlier release) featured great artwork, but this one is just lackluster. Overall a great EP, I expect great things from this band.

Surprisingly original, Unsurprisinly impressive

This EP was crucial for VersaEmerge, as thier sophomore release since taking on Sierra as thier lead singer. I can say that they truly defined themselves in all six songs, giving each one a consistent flavor. And what's even better is that VersaEmerge was able to use this EP to appeal to pop/rock/hardcore fans without conforming to any stereotype or trying to fill another band's shoes. It's a great collection of music, with a little bit of darkness in its spine. All in all though, the EP was very successful in helping to define the new VersaEmerge.
