Customer Reviews
Worst Verve To Date
I am a huge fan of the Verve Remixed series and am disappointed to state Verve Remixed Christmas is by far the worst in the series. Thinking this would be fun re-imagined version of holiday classics like the others in the Verve Remixed series, I purchased this album and quickly learned why it’s only $6.99. Where the other Verve Remixed volumes are great on there own or as cocktail party background music, Verve Remixed Christmas is the opposite. On their own these songs are mutated versions of the originals, which are more often an irritant to the ear than enjoyable, with clumsy and unfocused sounds which make them hard to listen to and even harder to imagine playing as background music at a festive holiday gathering. There are many other holiday remixed albums which got it right, unfortunately this is clearly not one of them.
What? This is really good, actually!
I was, to be fair, a little disappointed with Verve Remixed 4 (2 and 3 being the best, in my humble opinion), but it was great to hear a holiday-themed Verve Remixed album that totally redeems the continuing existence of this series. A great addition to anyone's Christmas album collection that you'd have to be backward not to like. Walt Disney would have enjoyed it.
FABULOUS
The Verve series continues to grow, evolve and experiment with varying degrees of success, depending on who you talk to. I dunno, I am loving it. What a welcome Christmas backdrop to a world full of the same old tired Mariah Carey songs, what a cool way to revisit the classics, and what a gosh darn sheer joy to hear Billie Holiday singing "I've got My Love To Keep Me Warm" over reggae-influenced production! My only complaint is that I always just want more.
