Album Review

A.F.I.'s second album features lots of warp-speed hardcore riffing topped with one-note melodies and lyrics dealing with various types of personal disillusionment (sample: "I can't be a part of your modern world"). The California quartet valiantly tries to keep hardcore alive, but doesn't put an individual stamp on the music to make it essential listening.

This is not their first album..... FYI

iTunes F'ed it up and put this as their first release. Answer that and stay fashionable...... is in fact their first true full length release. Which is more or less a compilation of the EPs they put out the few years prior. (Ballroom Dancing, Fly in the Ointment, Dork, and East Bay Hardcore) Get it straight people ;-)

90s Angst

A.F.I. like many other bands of its time focus songs on harmonized wailing, and power chords, reminding more popular 90s listeners of "The Offspring". "Very Proud of Ya" is no different, and though seemingly another spawn of 90s Angst Punk, A.F.I.s contribution through this album is very commendable. As they shoot through 20 tracks in under 38 minutes, the head-banging pulse of A.F.I.s "Very Proud of Ya" gives the listener the adrenaline rush they should expect in every punk band of the era.

SxE Hardcore East Bay.

this album is great. personally, i think it is the second best AFI album, in front of it being Black Sails, and behind it being Answer That. He Who Laughs Last is one of my favorite AFI tracks ever, and if their new album sounds anything like this, i am happy. but if their new album is like Miss Murder, then AFI has completely sold out to the mainstream, and that is very disappointing. that is not what AFI is about. AFI is about not giving a damn about mainstream, being Straight-Edge and hardcore, and supplying us hardcore sxe kids with great music to mosh to. am i right? i think i am. [there was my little rant for the day.] nevertheless. buy this album. you won't be disappointed.

Although they didn't reach platinum status until 2003, hardcore punk revivalists AFI originally formed in 1991, when the band's four founding members — vocalist Davey Havok, guitarist Markus Stopholese, bassist Vic Chalker, and drummer Adam Carson — were attending high school in Ukiah, CA.
