Incredibly evocative music
I'm a huge fan of film music and the symphonies of Gustav Mahler. This is a beautiful, complexly woven piece of of modern music that reminds me of Mahler's 7th Symphony, in particular the 'Nachtmusik' passages. The opening movement really draws you in. Immensely enjoyable and challenging. Bravo. I can't wait to hear more music from this gifted composer.
Shattering original voice
If you experience work programmatically, I think you'll find this symphony timely - I hear reflections of so many of this decade's complexities, thrills and fears. If you're an absolute-music listener, I think you'll find that Graef has constructed a rewardingly complex and contemporary first symphony in a vigorous and original voice.
Impressive
I have to agree with the previous review about the Mahler-esque elements. Complex, layered, evocative stuff here with great (and often unexpected) emotional range, and a sense that the composer's intelligence and personality are alive in the music. Want more from this guy.
