Stunning
This is a really exciting recording that can only help to build Janine Jansen's reputation as a major player on the international violin circuit. The reduced orchestration of string quartet and continuo gives the music space for one of the iciest Winters and the most jubilant and energetic Springs that you'll here anywhere. If you're looking for something with the precision and weight of a modern instruments recording, but with the vitality and nimbleness of a period performance, this is the album for you.
Classic Revised
It only took a few seconds to realize that this is a totally new, revised playing of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Without the big orcerstra in the background, the piece has more of a "personal" feel to it. The recording is so crisp and clear, it's like you invited a quartet over to play in your living room. Wonderful buy!
Finally, A Fresh Vivaldi
For anyone that is a fan of the "Four Seasons" or just unique classical music, I would highly recommend this album. Janine Jansen's ensemble plays a fresh, crisp set of concertos more cleanly than I have ever heard. Vivaldi's most recognized work is truly brought to life with this minimalist variation unhampered by the heavy ochestral sea of the standard interpretation. The keen edge of the first violin is impressive throughout, and the accompanying musicians create an organic and refreshing sound. Please support a muscian that will hopefully continue to create such inspired classical works.
