Who knew history could be so much fun!
Mark Steel has an amazing talent in being able to make the history of the French Revolution not only fascinating, but funny too. This book is great not just because he defends the rationality that was the cornerstone of this great human experiment, he debunks the stereotypes too. The main players are all portrayed as real human beings, flawed, but also incredibly optimistic in attempting to change the world and make it a better place. The fact that it's laugh out loud funny as well makes it not just worth listening to, but priceless as well. It amazed me how quotations from these writers of the late 1700's resonated so strongly with me in 2009.
