Album Review
On King Diamond's eighth concept album, the prolific horror rocker hasn't entirely run out of ideas, although the material on Voodoo is generally predictable. Set in New Orleans, the story line is loaded with more witchcraft, haunted houses, and ghosts. The music stays true to form as well; Diamond's cartoonishly ghastly vocals haven't lost any of their bite, long running sideman Andy LaRocque maintains his own high level of proficiency on the guitar, and the band in general turn in dependably workmanlike performances. Overall, King Diamond achieves a sort of musical equivalent to the classic Hammer horror films of the 1960s. He invests a sincere enthusiasm in his work that is hard not to appreciate.
Customer Reviews
Top Notch!! Dimebag solo included!!!
My introduction to KingDiamond was a cassette of Them, so I've always been particular to that classic along with Abigail, his true finest album. This album, by far is one his all time greatest, based solely on the fact that it is conceptually different from all his other work. It has the signature vocals, and driving drum beats, but what sets this album apart is the title track. It features guitar work from the deceased Dimebag Darrel and is just crushing!!! I would recomend this album based on the down tunning, the concept, and the vocals. For the late 90's when rap metal was controlling things, King Diamond managed to tweak his sound just enough, without losing face, or selling out.
Excellent Album
Hey critic, what do you mean by that crack about his voice? I'd like to hear you sing like him. Oh yeah, that's right, there's only one King Diamond, and, he is the King of the concept album. No one on the planet, not even Rob Halford can match King Diamond's vocal range, and, I am a HUGE Judas Priest fan as well. King diamond has been and always will be tops in my book, and, that is all that matters to me.
