iTunes Review

Though he took nearly five years to release Voodoo, the follow-up to his 1995 debut Brown Sugar, D'Angelo Archer ensured that it was worth the wait. Voodoo was one of those rare neo-soul albums that transcended the category, a funky joint on par with the great artists who inspired it. Even less occupied with big hooks this time out, D'Angelo instead went for slow build and sizzle. The funkiest tracks were some of the most subtle; hear "Chicken Grease," which wraps an impossibly sly guitar hook around a metaphor for . . . well, something. Or maybe it's just about cooking. Such an approach might be maddening in a less accomplished, vibe-full record, but here it works. And there are peaks among the flow, like the singles "Untitled" and the uproarious sex jam "Left and Right," featuring Method Man and Redman.

Don't You Never Forget

Ive been reading all these reviews and it says nothing about the best song on the album, probably the best song ive ever heard in my life, Africa. Africa has the most soul to it and just hits right in the heart with its lyrics. It makes you sad because it is so beautiful and that it is the end of one of the greatest rnb albums of all time. It is an amazing song. The whole album is great and irresistible but Africa is just the everlasting soul of the album and a wonderful ode to the land of our ancestors and God.

I could never be an artist, I simply don't have the temper for it. As an example, I spent the last 10 minutes sitting here at 1 in the morning, the steady melodic thumping of this very album coursing through the background with my head in my hand, nodding back and forth in disbelief, and frustration with some of the negative reviews of this album.
