iTunes Review

While Nirvana was reaping the decidedly mixed, tragically short-lived blessings of massive mainstream success, Pearl Jam went about steadily building the '90s most consistently successful rock career. Their 1993 sophomore collection initially underscored the band's disdain for traditional music biz trappings (being released with no singles or videos to support it), yet still soared immediately to the top of the charts and went multi-platinum. The opening salvos of "Go" and "Animal" quickly thrash expectations that this will be but a continuation of the often arena-friendly charms of their debut, while singer Eddie Vedder wears his sociopolitical obsessions firmly on his sleeve on the anti-gun "Glorified G" and "Blood." Yet Pearl Jam also leavens the thrash with the forceful acoustic intrigues of "Daughter," an emotionally warmer side of the band that's also showcased on "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter In a Small Town" and the haunting, elegiac closer, "Indifference."

Ten was great, but this??? AMAZING! Each song has incredible force and power, it just knocks you off your feat!!! PJ's best album by a landslide!

Anyways...

Go: 10/10 - One of my favorite songs on the album, rocks hard and fast.
Animal: 8/10 - Not one of my favorites, but this song will kind of grow on you eventually
Daughter: 9/10 - The albums leading single
Glorified G: 10/10 - VERY underrated song, fun to sing along to.
Dissident: 8/10 - Great classic PJ rock
W.M.A: 6/10 - my least favorite PJ song on the album
Blood: 7/10 - not very memorable
Rearviewmirror: 9/10 - boys and girls, this is a good one
Rats: 10/10 - GREAT song, odd lyrics?
Elder Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town: 10/10 - cool song, weird name
Leash: 100/10 - BEST song on the album, one of PJ's "hidden gems". DROP THE LEASH
Indifference: 7/10 - A slow pearl jam rocker

Pearl Jam's debue album, Ten was an unbelevable success.
It had four Rockin superhits: Evenflow Jeremy Alive and black. The rest of it also was consistant.
They followed up with this. Vs. seems to be less of a rock album. It shines with a different sparkle than Ten had, and in my opinion not in a good way.
This album may posses alot of emotion and writting skill, but starts the trend that Pearl Jam albums follow from here on of "having no real melody" to the songs or "distinctive riffs"
Daughter is the only track that really kinda does, and it was the only real hit off this one. Songs like "rearview mirror" and "Elderly woman" just sorta ramble on with real generic guitar and vocals that go all over the place. I love rock, classic rock. I appreciate an even flow throughout a song. This album toned it down quite a bit, there are no killer solos or catchy choruses,
it seems like i'm really ragging on the album, but, it is a gem, if you like a sorta softer PJ and really just like to pay attention to lyrics, which Vedder is good at, this is the album for you.
To me, kinda a step down, like In Utero. But Rock and roll was kinda bein pushed aside mid 90's for glamor pop, alternative, and rap... so hey whatev
