iTunes Review
One of the most talented and popular singer/producers associated with the neo-soul movement, Dwele has been impressing listeners since early in the millennium, working with fellow Motown residents Slum Village and their late, great beat maestro J Dilla. Though he started off as a rapper, he soon shifted into soul-singer mode, releasing his official debut album Subject in 2003. Seven years later he returns with his fourth full-length, a conceptual record broken into three parts that examine material desires, global politics, and (of course), the ladies. Clocking in at 17 tracks, it includes more collaborations than his previous efforts, pairing him up with an assortment of artists including David Banner ("Dodgin' Your Phone"), Raheem DeVaughn ("Dim The Lights"), Monica Blaire on the sublime "Detroit Sunrise" and West Coast legend DJ Quik on the head-nodding closer "I Wanna." Be sure to check out both singles, "What's Not to Love" and "I Wish" plus the self-explanatory "Love You Right."
Customer Reviews
It's straight...
While the album maintains Dwele's usual silky ballads, the production value of WWW hasn't evolved to include newer or alternative rythems that could potentially propel his career to uncharted territory. His music (especially the previous two albums) needs to be injected with something wildly creative to take advantage of this unique vocals. Dwele is still a relatively young cat, but as his career has progressed he has rarely strayed from the soft, downtempo ambient vibes that are a staple of his music. In terms of career sustainability, I think he would be better served if he reached out to cutting-edge eletronica producers like Flying Lotus or Amp-1, or J-Dilla inspired dudes like Nicolay or Strange Fruit Project's S1 to help advance his career further than before.
Smooth and Hot.
This CD is hot...if you are a Dwele fan you won't be disappointed. I left work early today just to down load this CD to my iPod @ midnight when it became available. Now, that is serious....Lol!!!! I "LOVE" me some Dwele..
Always Good
I have been listening to Dwele for a long time and have ALWAYS loved his style. He is a true artist that both male and female can enjoy and relate too. He has never been a bad purchase and has always had multiple rotations on my CD player, now iPod. I love you Dwele! Keep making this real music.
