A True Hip-Hop Experience

It's been a long time since I've heard an album as solid and awe-inspiring as Emmanuel Jal's latest. With incredible instrumentals and guests, the album blows away any preconception about the bounds of hip-hop/rap music; it blows the speakers with big band sound and traditional bass, only to bring you back to earth with meaningful and storytelling lyrics. Overall one of the most powerful hip-hop albums that has ever been produced, listen to "Shadow of Death," "Emma," "No Bling," "War Child," to really get a feel for Emmanuel's diversity; however, the whole album is one that you can listen to all the way through without skipping a single song. I highly recommend this one.

Absolutely beautiful

This album left me with tears streaming down my cheeks. I'm not even a hip hop fan, but Emmanuel's music is absolutely gorgeous. He did an interview on Public Radio and it is worth a quick Google search to hear his story and the history of this album. They played a snippet of "Emma" and I was on the internet that night trying to find out where I could get a copy. The song has haunted me ever since. Buy it. It's worth it.
