Two of Germany's greatest Singer/Songwriters on stage together
This is without a doubt one of my favorite live albums. Relevant, intelligent, timeless and often very funny, Wader & Wecker prove that after decades of making music, they are still at the top of their game. I just wish that iTunes would FINALLY make all of Konstantin Wecker's music available.
Was fuer eine Nacht
A great compilation by the two old bards of German political Folk song. I just wish we had more artists of this caliber in the US. Actually, the Dixie Chicks, perhaps, get closest these days. Someone who doesn't stop to speak out loud against right wing extremism, intolerance, nationalism, misunderstood patriotism, racial hatred and just plain ignorant stupidity. Someone who at the same time sings some of the most beautiful, poetic and heartfelt love songs out there. It is (in most cases) not really understandable why the songs of this album are flagged "Explicit". In particular since they are in German (with some Italian). Wecker and Wader re-surrect several great songs from the legendary life album "Uferlos", a compilation of songs from the early '90s. The new versions lost some of the energy and impulsivity of the "Uferlos" arrangements, which I had a chance to listen to open air in Germany, at times when we went out forming candle chains protesting against Neonazis and racial hatred. Sure, the guys got older... But they haven't lost any of their political relevance, evidenced by (sporadic) recent attacks against Foreigners in Germany and by the ignorant neo-Conservatism in the US alike. Well worth listening to, very rythmic, catchy tunes, and if you speak German, you get great lyrics to think about as well.
