Not as good as i hoped...

But it is still a good album. It is definitely worth it if you are a big fan of the Lawrence Arms or Smoke or Fire. I was really excited when I heard about this release because I am a big fan of the two bands and i loved Joe's acoustic stuff on All In and i hoped that Brendan's stuff could be on par with Chris' in Sundowner. But i must say that Brendan's half is a little unimpressive. Of course the writing is good and his voice is great, but none of the versions are better than their electric Lawrence Arms versions. He plays a little too much with the rhythms at the expense of prettiness. Frankly it comes off a a little annoying. Joe's half of the album is much better. I had no doubt it would be good. I will be honest, I was hoping for the Smoke or Fire version of Against Me!'s Acoustic EP, but it wasn't quite at that level. His voice is a little loud but his voice is very nice and his guitar playing very pleasant. One problem with his songs is that they are pretty literal interpretations of the electric versions. That isn't such a bad thing, they just didn't blow me away.
The biggest problem or downside to this album is really the fact that i had such high hopes that it probably could not have reached anyways. It is worth picking up because a lot of the stuff on this album is great, good, or at least worth a listen for a real fan.

Brendan kills it

Brendan killled it; 5 stars for him... Flipside, Joe's guitar sounds overmic'd... All I hear is the sound of his fingers sliding up and down the neck of the guitar.... Nothing against Joe and his music, but that's really annoying.

Just what I was looking for but didn

Sometimes we don't know it, but we long for music that is pure and raw. No over production, no gimmicks, no tricks, no hair gel, no auto tune, etc... I stumbled on this by browsing the Anchorless catalog and it was exactly what I was unknowingly looking for. Guitar, vocals and folky punk lyrics. Needed this. Thanks!
