Water Falls lets you escape

Sara K. is a perfectionist of her craft. She takes you to places paradoxically foreign yet somehow domestic and pure; her songs are new and fresh yet feel old and familiar. Her first cut "Water Falls", is poetic melodic and hypnotic. It almost compels you to close your eyes and briefly be taken to a place of worldly bliss. Her work doesn't appeal to the lowest common denominator, nor does she care too. Her music requires the listener to slow down and reminds me of an analysis similar to viewing an impressionist painting like that of Monet, or Degas; there is an architecture to her sound. The instrumentals are carefully orchestrated like an artist carefully mixes his colors for just the right nuance of shade, tint and hue. It is no accident that she sings of the tragic life of Vincent Van Gogh (see "Vincent" in "Are we there Yet?") or the way a painter creats his canvas (listen to "The Painter"). "You stoke my mind; you know that's kind of painful...You don't know what you do..." She is a vocalist who is well aware of what she does. She is an artist in her own right, but in a world where there has to be some reference to give legitimacy to something new and unique, she seems to have influences from singers like Joni Mitchell ( by her perfection of craft) and Tracy Chapman (with her alto sultry voice). Her sound is comforting even if the story is one of personal disaster or promising love that is destine to fail, and yet, with Sara K., the effort is always worth the risk. Her narrative always tells a familiar story that in our fast paced world we have somehow forgotten. Her manor of delivery is so unpretentious we are immediately invited into her world. Close your eyes and you can feel the soft linen cloth draping your skin as you inhale an exotic aroma of incense and sip dandelion tea. The technical production and crispness of this album is also exemplary. You can hear all the artist's inflections both in her low sultry tones and the "twang" of her unusual four string guitar. I give this performance my highest rating of 5 stars. Give a quick listen and you too will be pulled into her world which ain't half bad.

Years Active: '00s

From the time she first performed in front of an audience when she was 17 years old, singer/songwriter Sara K. knew she wanted to live her life making music. She followed her dream and stayed true to her desire, despite the fact that demand for acoustic solo performers was falling off as the end of the '70s approached. Several avenues remained open to her, including fronting her own band, studio work, and backing country music artists, which she did in her hometown of Dallas, TX. She also found work...
