Album Review
John Klemmer was (along with Eddie Harris) a pioneer and an innovator at utilizing electrical devices on his saxophone. For this live set, Klemmer used an Echoplex on his tenor and soprano and was joined by keyboardist Mike Nock, electric bassist Wilton Feldman, drummer Eddie Marshall, Victor Feldman on percussion, and (on two of the eight songs) vocalist Diana Lee. Recorded live on June 17, 1972 (with additional recording added five days later), this CD reissue gives one a good example of Klemmer's playing before his mood music records caught on. He certainly achieved some unusual effects at the time although he never became an influential force. Worth investigating by open-eared listeners.
Customer Reviews
John Klemmer's 2nd-best jazzrockfunk era recording! Takes you on a journey...
How about adding 1974's "Magic and Movement" iTunes? Also an amazing set! Theres some light ahead and centrifugal force energize!
Road to Utopia
One of Klemmer’s greatest pre-smooth records and arguably one of the best records of the early '70s in any category, Waterfalls was recorded on June 17, 1972—the very day of the Watergate break-in. But unlike the Nixon gang, this record is all about peace, love and optimism—the music is a perfect reflection of the Terry Lamb album art. Mike Nock's Rhodes is particularly outstanding, and that’s the great Wilton Felder from the Crusaders on bass, not Wilton Feldman as the notes have it. Excellent sound quality, a bargain at 8 bucks.
