They do love Ella...
who doesn't? She was,and remains,in my opinion,the greatest female singer ever. The songs in this tribute album are sung with love.Standouts include Queen Latifah,Lizz Wright,Gladys Knight...wait...they are all great with the exception of cut #4.I think Ms. Krall tries waaaaay too hard to be romantic.Miss Ella did it with ease. After you listen to this album,buy "'Round Midnight," with Ella doing the vocals.It is unsurpassed in gorgeousness.I have all of Miss Ella's albums,and that one is her very best,IMHO. Thank you everyone,on this album.Your admiration shines through.
Vocal University!..
This record has everyone you need to listen to for a singer's master class. I'm glad they sprinkled in a little Ella to show the real deal at work. Queen Lah holds her own among these masters. "Airmail Special" is top notch. Diana Krall's super-slow "Dream A..." is magic. Chaka & Natalie, together, you can't go wrong there. Linda, k.d., Etta, Michael, Gladys, Liz and Dianne. Don't know who Ledisi is, but she worth looking into. Grade A. Great arrangements.
