Album Review

Weird Food & Devastation follows the pattern of the Connells' previous album, Ring, by adding harder-edged guitars to their ringing guitar pop. The Connells aren't able to come up with a set of memorable songs for Weird Food, but the album nevertheless remains a pleasurable listen, especially for fans of Southern jangle-pop (R.E.M., Let's Active) or melodic alternative rock in the vein of Buffalo Tom.

Weirdly good

I'd probably rate this as my least favorite Connells album (though I like and listen to all of them regularly). Tracks 1, 3 and 7 are probably the only ones I'd point to as great Connells songs. But as a whole, this is an enjoyable record that blends together well despite the lack of stand-out tracks. Still well worth your money if you enjoy their music.

Understated greatness

I was really unprepared for the change they made in this album. Even though they had a history of this. The uniqueness they took to writing this album really hit me and I took to this album with great admiration. It quickly became one of my favorites, with songs like 'just like that' and 'too high' really drawing me in. But, it was 'Any' that really blew me away, it's a masterpeice of a song. I have been a fan of everything the've done, no matter what direction they go!

@Christopher Roberts

I agree not the best. I have Old School Dropouts on cd and it is a giant good step from this album which i also have a top 3 on.

1. Fifth Fret
2. Let It Go (just love the way it sounds)
3. Maybe

They should put Old School Dropouts on here. Love how that albums track listing on the back of it goes 1,2,3,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. I cracked up when I discovered that :)
