first in line but last to know

this song is very 50’s swing styled. the hives have come back with a johnny-rockets-diner-styled tune with a little more than just backup harmonies, but rather swing “woo-hoo’s” and “well all right’s!” i think the hives improve drastically and become more appealing to a broader audience as the world continues to open their ears to the best live band (according to spin magazine in 2004) continues to release new material. as a follow-up from their tyrannasaurus hives lp, they seem to be going in the right direction, still maintaining several aspects from their garage-rock days. howlin’ pete continues to keep his sense of humor alive yelling silly phrases like, “you want help? you gotta ask for help and i aint gonna give you help ‘cuz i can’t help myself!” sometimes i wonder whether he contributes to the lyrics when he freestyles in the song that way. there is supposedly a sixth hives member who writes all the lyrics. anyhow, this track gets nine out of ten splendas!

Something Completely Different...

Well, well, well, I must say that this is one of the more interesting songs that the Hives have produced. And I like it. It's got an excellent swing to it and reminds me of one their earlier numbers, The Stomp. It's really cool because it's so different from the rest of the Hives' catalogue. but still has that Hives style that fans of the band love. Great song, great band...

Well... All Right.

Cool song, yep...

Biography

Formed: 1993 in Fagersta, Sweden

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Eight years into their career, the Hives rose from garage rock stalwarts to one of the trendiest bands of the early 2000s, along with the Strokes and the White Stripes. Mixing arty contrivances such as a strict black-and-white dress code and the guidance of a (possibly imaginary) Svengali named Randy Fitzsimmons with Stooges-inspired rock, the Hives — Nicholaus Arson, Chris Dangerous, Dr. Matt Destruction, Vigilante Carlstroem, and Howlin' Pelle Almqvist — formed in 1993 in Fagersta,...
