From C.W. Ross

I first heard of the Denver based band Rightfully Accused when I reviewed their first album, “Ready or Not…,” that was filled with hard driving rock music. Fans of that album are in for a big surprise when they listen to the band’s new 3-song EP, ‘Part One – Classy, Chic, Sophisticated.’

The band has transformed themselves from a driving rock band to an electro-pop dance band. The band says that their new tagline is, “A new era begins.” Band front man Sean Murray explains the change as, “Over the last couple years we’ve gone through a lot of trials that really caused us to grow as people, we’ve also opened ourselves up to a ton of new musical influences. All of this really came out in the writing and production for this album. To be honest, it’s almost a bit of a stretch to say we’re the same band we were before at all.”

Rightfully Accused EP, ‘Part One – Classy, Chic, Sophisticated’ is the first part of a four part series from the band and made up by the 3 songs, “Changes”, “Point of the Matter”, and “Life is a Game.”

The track, “Changes”, opens with a melodic piano part that turns into an upbeat pop track. “Point of the Matter”, also opens up with a short piano part that builds into a pop/dance track complete with club style vocal effects and sounds. “Life is a Game”, is an upbeat techno, synth filled track about love.

Being a rocker at heart I personally preferred the band’s old rocking style but can appreciate that you have to do what you heart is telling you to do. I’m sure that the band’s drastic change of musical style will cause some of their longtime fans to leave the fold but they should be able to counteract it with new ones that are drawn to the band’s new sound.
