Well well well...

     

We've certainly come a long way since "The Status State," now haven't we Dr. Keen? Would all of you believe me if I told you that this album has glimmers of Peter Gabriel, Beck, and even David Byrne/Brian Eno? Plenty of pop sensibility here as well, so don't buy the hype that this is music for the initiated only. While the instrumentation and programming can seen dense at times, much in the same way Trent Reznor does, TSITR manages to make it all sound relatively organic. While I enjoy the majority of the album, I found myself gravitating more towards the instrumental sections of songs. This isn't to say the lyrics aren't equal parts sardonic wit and non sequitur, but I can definitely see some of the slower tracks being a way forward for the next album. Perhaps I am asking too much, but I think TSITR is due for something a bit more introspective and subdued. Much in the way Kid A was a 'quiet' album, I think TSITR is doing themselves/himself a disservice by not exploring that side of his talent further. All together, good show old boy, good show.
