Album Review
Released in 2008, Wettsingen in Schwetzingen is a unique MTV Unplugged album: it acts as a singing contest between German soul singer Xavier Naidoo and the band he formed and still records with, Sohne Mannheims. Recorded at the Rococo Theatre at Schwetzingen Castle, Germany, the two-disc, 25-track list features acoustic performances of both acts' biggest hits, including "Babylon System," "Fuhr Mich ans Licht," and "Wenn Du Schlafst." Simply amazing!
I happened to catch this while it was being played live on the MTV (in Germany) and just couldn't turn it off. I was glad to find it on iTunes and downloaded it immediately. As the previous critique said: they simply outdid themselves. I was already a fan of Soehne Mannheims... and this just reconfirmed for me why I like their music so much. Great guest artists and seamless transitions between the solo pieces of Xavier Naidoo and Soehne Mannheims make it easy to enjoy the best of both worlds. The two songs that I probably enjoy the most are "Wo willst du hin?" with guest harpist, Andreas Vollenweider, and the fun-loving and crowd-pleasing "Was wird mich erwarten", but you can't go wrong with any of them. All in all a wonderful concert. Highly recommended!!
Wish iTS would do the Video too
I haven't heard the whole album yet, but I love the fresh arrangements of what are most of my favorites from these artists. The only thing that would be better would for the iTunes Store to make the video available when it comes out in November (saw a number of cuts before YouTube pulled the plug). Are you listening iTS?
Totally Surprised
Like the last reviewer stated I happened to catch this on MTV unplugged while being stationed in Germany. Totally outstanding!! Both myself and my wife could not and would not change the channel. The entire CD is great even though we have our favorites. I highly recommend just listening and feeling the songs. Completely outstanding CD... highly recommended, again I cant say more about this Group.
