hand of Jack White
Eh, it's ok.
You can definitely tell Jack White is the mind behind this band.
I love the music, the guitars sound perfect, drums aren't overpowering, nice organ stabs, etc., but her voice....
It just seems flat. Like she isn't really putting forth any effort.
For me, the music wins but, the singing just doesn't cut it. I really WANT to like this band, maybe they'll release some music with redeeming vocals in the future.
killer, right out of the gate
Almost nothing is known (or can be found) about Third Man's newest band, but you can bet once the world gets wind of these ladies, the label will be looking at a hit. The high-probability of its success isn't hurt by White directing their video...not that it would take much to make these girls look good. The title track certainly shows White's influence, but stands on its own with a layered sounds of distorted organs, tremelo'd guitars, and noirish surf-punk/rockabilly tones. Yes, its familiar, but that doesn't make any less badass.
Can't wait to hear more.

I am a medium Colbert fan, and while his song is funny, it's not one I'd buy really, but I very much like The Black Belles! Alot of the critical views I sort of see their points, but The Black Belles remind me of 50's and 60's rock like The Shangri-Las and such, and that's a good thing. They aren't anything like most modern rock music, they are a bit different, unpolished. I can't wait to hear more from them!
