Album Review

Aided by Stetsasonic's Daddy O on a pair of cuts ("Make It Funky" and "Top Billin'"), Audio Two's full-length debut is a patchy affair, just like the albums that would follow from the Brooklyn duo. Neither Gizmo Dee nor his brother Milk are proficient rappers with above average lyrical capabilities, but the way they play off each other is occasionally enough to cause some excitement. "Top Billin'" stands easily as the best track here, thanks in no small part to Daddy O's sparse yet infectious work — the beat would later reappear in Mary J. Blige's "Real Love." Other entertaining moments include "Hickeys Around My Neck" and "Make It Funky."

Hip-Hop History

"Top Billin'" is an important part of Hip-hop history and it definitely carries the album. It captured the essence of Rap and B-boyism of the time (1988) and moved it forward into a new era. As well, it has been sampled and re-used by Mary J. Blige and others. To this day (2008), twenty years later, not many beats can hold their own against the "Top Billin'" beat! As well, the hook in that song is so strong, that I haven't heard the track in over 15 years, until today, and it was so firmly imbedded in my head along with the beat, that I had to search this album out on iTunes and download it!!

For Mature Audiences only

This is classic material. Fun Hip hop with little to no drug and gun references. No B!t@hes, no drive bys and most importantly no Lafi Tafi. You youngstas need to learn a lesson.

Biography

Formed: Brooklyn, NY

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '80s, '90s

Siblings of MC Lyte and a pair of the most notorious gay-bashers in hip-hop, Audio Two — Gizmo Dee and Milk — released a trio of albums during the late '80s and early '90s, each of which had good moments drizzled throughout patches of filler. The Brooklyn brothers were signed to First Priority by the label's president, their father. "Top Billin'," "What More Can I Say," and "Hickeys Around My Neck" won the duo some fans, but it wasn't enough to make the album worthy of classic status....
