iTunes Review

Australian ensemble INXS's Listen Like Thieves is an album of pure bravado. Confident and brash, lead singer Michael Hutchence grabs these songs like he's already playing to an arena full of adoring fans. On their breakout hit "What You Need," he sings with the swagger of Mick Jagger. While the band still embraces their new-wave influences, the synths and '80s guitar sounds work perfectly here. "Shine Like It Does" moves with the boundless joy of a child skipping down a sidewalk. Good + Bad Times" combines new-wave percussion pops with rock guitar grinds and a sinewy saxophone solo to somewhat ominous effect. And "Biting Bullets" bristles with all the Steve McQueen cool of the pub band they'd once been. This was the first major breakthrough for INXS, and it still spits energy and verve.

That iTunes Review is Ridiculous!

If only for not including Shine Like it Does and This Time as great singles. But the record stands up as a whole as well, even now. The production gives a lot of depth to its seeming straightforward rock and it rewards with multiple listens/.

Most Excellent 80's classic

Three words: Kiss. The. Dirt. I cannot emphasize how musically sound this whole album is, and that song is by far the most complex, and elusive, and yet it flows as if it were made of water. But the whole thing really rocks. Nice instrumental in there, too- Three Sisters - I'm using it as the processional for my wedding.

every INXS album is good

This album probably has the most beat & rhythem out of all the INXS albums. "Kiss the dirt" is probably the only song I've ever herd that has such a BEAT. What else can I say, this album is awsome. "This Time" is the inspiring song on hear. "Listen Like Thieves" is loud &has alot of sound & beat, love it!!!! "What you Need" is a great pick me up. "Good and Bad Times" is good too.

INXS hailed from the pubs of Australia, which is part of the reason the band never comfortably fit in with new wave. Even when they branched out into synth pop on their early recordings, they were underpinned by a hard, Stonesy beat and lead singer Michael Hutchence's Jagger-esque strut. Ultimately, these were the very things that made INXS into international superstars in the late '80s. By that time, the group had harnessed its hard rock, dance, and new wave influences into a sleek, stylish groove...
