When The Sun Goes Down mixes rootsy John Mellencamp-esque themes of small town America with Caribbean vacation daydreams, nostalgic drinking songs like the humorous "Keg In The Closet," and twangy tear jerkers that touch on the tribulations and triumphs of family life. "There Goes My Life" sets the tone for a ballad heavy outing with a sentimental narrative about facing an unexpected pregnancy and surrendering youthful dreams to raise a family before realizing that the rewards of fatherhood surpass those fantasies. It's a moving song that plays heavy on the heartstrings of anyone who has ever had to eschew their own plans and grow up fast.
