Album Review

With When You Were Mine, John Waite toned down his hard rock influences in an attempt to regain the adult contemporary radio audience he once had. Although the results aren't entirely successful — too often, the songs lack a strong melody or hook — there's enough well-crafted mainstream pop here to satisfy longtime fans, even if there aren't any singles strong enough to win back his crossover popularity.

Genius

I think it's worth it just for Let's Get Out of Here alone! What a tune. His voice sounds fantastic; let's face it, when doesn't it? When You Were Mine, Show Me How to Love You, I-95, Imaginary Girl and Suicide Life -- classics! If you don't own this, you're missing a big piece of the Waite picture.
