ANOTHER GREAT ONE
I completely disagree with ITunes review. This album has a different feel than Idol's previous 2--that's what makes him
great! There are many fantastic songs on this album: Sweet 16 is a great ballad and sung beautifully, Don't Need A Gun is an awesome rocker as well as Soul Standing By and I love Fatal Charm! Of course, I'm an avid fan and have all of Idol's recordings and he really doesn't have a bad album out there. So, listen for yourself and don't expect all of Billy's songs to be clones of Rebel Yell--buy this one.
outstanding album
I also disagree with the i-tunes reviewer on this one. This album has at least 5 outstanding songs on it. World's Forgotten Boy and Sweet Sixteen are two of my favorites. Don't Need a Gun and Soul Standing by are also songs that rock in the signature Idol style. I find that casual Idol fans whose main exposure to Billy Idol is through hearing Mony Mony on the mix stations are generally attracted to "To Be a Lover" on this album because it shares some of that same rockabilly sound. While I also like that song, this album has alot more to offer than that.
Billy at his best
I think this is a rare occasion when iTunes missed the boat with their review. It's Billy Idol's finest record. While it may lack the punk rage of Gen X to Rebel Yell works, it's controlled yet exciting with arrangements that leave the garage behind. And it's far from the "pop" of Cradle of Love & Mony Mony type tracks. The songs are all structured nicely. From verse to bridge to chorus to the GIANT guitars thanks to Steve Stevens. "To Be A Lover" is a great cover. "Don't Need A Gun" and "Soul Standing By" and "Fatal Charm" build and rock nicely. And tracks like "Sweet Sixteen" and "All Summer Single" are relaxed without losing his snarl. Based on the iTunes review, I guess I'm dancing with myself on this one! Who cares. It's a great album.
