chances are, you did not stumble across this album. chances are, you are one of the ever-growing throng who have fallen in love with the music of eric whitacre. maybe you have sang his music before... maybe you attended a concert and were blown away by a piece of his... maybe he came highly recommended by a friend. regardless, you are probably here to support eric whitacre and try to spread the word about his brilliance. if so, then i am obviously preaching to the choir. if, in fact, you DID stumble upon this album, then please stop reading this review and go buy it. sound unheard. don't bother with the preview, because once the 30 second clip ends, waiting the two minutes it takes for the full song to download after you have purchased it will seem like an eternity. purchase, sit back, relax, listen, and repeat. get ready to be be blown away. there are two types of people in this world... those who love eric whitacre and his music, and those who have never heard of eric whitacre and his music. welcome to the club.

AMAZING RECORDING!!!!

This is an amazing recording! Polyphony, under the direction of Stephen Layton is an amazing choir and performs extremely well. The choir has amazing tone, intonation, blend, and balance. One of the best choirs I've heard by far...and not to mention the best recording of strictly music by the fabulous composer Eric Whitacre. This by far exceeded my expectations and blew the BYU Singers recording out of the water in most areas. To make this CD better, it has a few songs that have never been recorded before. Songs such as 'This Marriage' and 'Her Sacred Spirit Soars' are found only on this CD and makes a great addition to your music library. I GARUNTEE that you will love this CD....ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE AN ERIC WHITACRE FAN OR CHOIR GEEK!!!! WOOT WOOT! In addition, if you were like me and bought the CD the day it was released in stores, the CD was and still is on sale for around $18.00. Obviously it is a STEAL here for only $9.99. IF YOU’RE THINKING OF BUYING IT, JUST DO IT! TRUST ME! -B

You all think this is the best but you don't know what you're missing!

I'm not going to give this album a bad rating. It isn't bad. In fact Polyphony is doing some really beautiful things. But for heaven's sake if you love Eric Whitacre, go find: Eric Whitacre: The Complete A Capella Works (1991-2001) (Brigham Young University Singers; Ronald Staheli, Conductor) THAT is a good recording of some of this stuff. It includes a longer "When David Heard" a better recording of "Sleep" and "Cloudburst" and skillful recordings of the Three Flower Songs. It also has many amazing songs not found on this album, including the genius "Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine." In my opinion, Polyphony's recording feels rather wooden and time-conscious and therefore pales in comparison to the BYU Singers recording. THEY can make me cry. It also sounds like they recorded in a better room than Polyphony did. If you pretend to love Whitacre, you will go buy that album. Click yes if you want iTunes to add it!
