i'm sick of you purists

just because against me! isn't regurgitating old music doesn't mean they suck or they've sold out. If you could make good money doing what you loved most in the world, wouldn't you? i'm sick of you against me purists hating everything since reinventing axl rose, i mean, seriously, that's only the tip of the iceberg for their music. It doesn't make you cool, it doesn't mean you "liked them before they sold out" because technically, if you were a pure anarchist, you wouldn't want them on ANY label, not even no idea, just on tapes cut in their dirty old apartments. As for the song, I love it, and I can't wait for New Wave. Warning: it's gonna sound different; they chose the title for a reason...think Disco Before the Breakdown,

Against My Expectations!

I'm moving into "New Wave" with an open mind, but this single is not a very good start. I think it's great that they're taking a more political stance with their lyrics, like in their previous album "Searching for a Former Clarity". That having been said, they just don't seem to have the same energy as in "Crime EP" or even "Reinventing Axel Rose". True, they have been together a very long time, and bands change as their careers progress, but aside from Tom Gabel's voice, they could very well be a completely different band. When they began, they helped to define the "anarcho-folk" gernre that was very minuscule at the time. They seemed to bring something new to the table. As a rock band, they just seem to be rehashing the same radio-friendly songs that we've all heard before. Fans of Against Me! who tuned into the band with "Searching..." will most likely be pleased, as this is a progression into more of a genre-specific rock sound. Long-time fans will most likely be disappointed.

New Against Me! vs. Old Against Me!

To be honest there is no comparison between "New" and "Old" Against Me! The Crime As Forgiven By EP is my favorite album of all time, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. But Against Me! is changing, and I don't think creative change can be labeled as good or bad. I enjoy their new music for what it is, not for what it was. As far as I'm concerned, Against Me! hasn't released a bad song in all of their years as a band...

Biography

Formed: 1997 in Gainesville, FL

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Before becoming a full-fledged punk band, Against Me! was an acoustic solo project spearheaded by Tom Gabel, who began playing shows as a 17-year-old in Gainesville, Florida. Starting in 1997, Gabel performed as a solo act wherever anyone would have him, drawing much influence from early acoustic protest music. By 2001, he'd beefed up his sound with the help of a full band — including guitarist James Bowman, drummer Warren Oakes, and bassist Andrew Seward — but there would always be some...
