Album Review

Geffen's 18-track Definitive Collection boasts the cream of the crop from veteran hair metal band Whitesnake, spanning over ten years of sex, drugs, and rock & roll. Released in conjunction with the group's Live...In the Still of the Night (Special Collector's Edition) DVD, The Definitive Collection outshines 1994's Greatest Hits by four tracks, and 2000's 20th Century Masters — The Millennium Collection by six, making it the ideal anthology for fans of heavy riffs, arena rock ballads, scantily clad models on top of flash cars, and primal, Robert Plant-inspired moaning from fluffy haired frontman David Coverdale. Slide it in.

Great Compilation

The album available here on iTunes is fine for sure; if you don't mind missing the huge punch of 'Don't Break my Heart Again', 'Walking in the Shadow of the Blues', 'Aint no Love in the Heart of the City' and 'Ready and Willing'. We have been deprived of the classic Whitesnake so long that hearing them as the opening 1-2-3-4 punch of a best of is a proper Whitesnake. Aside from the obvious early label/iTunes legality BS, the rest of the disc could use a minor song swap. 'Looking for Love' is a great tune from the European version of the 1987 album, but ''Your Gonna Break My Heart Again' would have been a better choice as it is a MUCH better song; it just smokes (Sykes!)! Leave off something like 'The Deeper the Love' or 'We Wish you Well' (cd version) and include 'Bad Boys', (which is ALWAYS left of Whitesnake best of's), and you got a great disc. So my review; Great of course...How can it not be great? It could just be better...And the actual CD release IS, for the inclusion of the early tracks and the cool booklet. I guess the box-set will have all that we need.

The Definite Collection(Whitesnake)

Great 80's band and even better when their hits are on a greatest hits album.

Biography

Formed: 1977 in London, England

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

After recording two solo albums, former Deep Purple vocalist David Coverdale formed Whitesnake around 1977. In the glut of hard rock and heavy metal bands of the late '70s, their first albums got somewhat lost in the shuffle, although they were fairly popular in Europe and Japan. During 1982, Coverdale took some time off so he could take care of his sick daughter. When he re-emerged with a new version of Whitesnake in 1984, the band sounded revitalized and energetic.
