Album Review

You could say that the early-'80s California punk scene was on par with the similar punk movements in London and New York City a few years prior. It was on the West Coast during this era that bands such as Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys, and X rocketed out of the underground, and inspired countless bands. Also, it was these West Coast bands that arguably helped create the violent slam-dancing/moshing style that everyone nowadays knows and loves. And while they're not as often name-checked as Black Flag, one listen to the tracks included on the 2005 compilation, Who's Screwin' Who? 18 T.S.O.L. Greatest Non-Hits, T.S.O.L. was smack-dab in the middle of the scene at the time, fighting in the trenches. Included here are all of the expected T.S.O.L. classics, including "Dance with Me," "F**k You Tough Guy," and "Code Blue," among others. Although T.S.O.L. didn't receive the same amount of attention as the aforementioned bands from the era, you can certainly hear the group's influence on latter-day punk here (especially on such future chart-toppers as the Offspring).

summary of TSOLS best songs

while purists may argue that some of the tracks on this disc dont match up to cult classics, this is still a great comp. 17 songs of their best, and only 4 are longer than three minutes. true punk from So Cal, this is a great intro.

!!!

Great songs, but the originals are better... Get T.S.O.L./Weathered Statues! :)

say "hello" to T.S.O.L. !!!!

this is a LIVE IN THE STUDIO recording and not a "typical" greatest hits album. having said that, "who's screwin' who?" is both a great introduction for newbies and a perfect addition for long time fans that would like to hear t.s.o.l. at their most raw sounding without trying to find a live bootleg recording. if you like political horror punk (& who doesn't??), pick up this album- you'll then want to buy all of t.s.o.l.'s previous material.

In the early years of Los Angeles punk, one of the premiere hardcore bands was T.S.O.L., which stood for True Sounds of Liberty. Offering poppier music than many of their contemporaries and featuring an image that appealed to punks who wanted to dive deeper into the gothic subgenre already being offered by many British punk bands, T.S.O.L. became hugely popular on...
