Released in 1998, Wide Open Spaces contains three Top Ten hits and by 2006 had become the best-selling group album in country music history. It was the Dixie Chicks’ major-label debut (and fourth album overall) and it turned the trio into country superstars. Their flawless harmonies and gorgeous individual voices, especially including spunky lead singer Natalie Maines, have equal measures of power, tenderness, and attitude. They're rock-solid instrumentalists — blending banjo, fiddle, and pedal steel with a driving, rock-influenced rhythm section — and strong songwriters capable of catchy hooks and lyrics that swing from heartrending to hilarious. Wide Open Spaces contains knockout honky-tonk tunes such as “Tonight the Heartache’s on Me,” sweet ballads like “Loving Arms,” and some choice covers, including a sizzling take on Bonnie Raitt’s “Give It Up or Let Me Go,” complete with stellar slide guitar licks. There’s not a drop of filler on this classic contemporary country album and the crack band backing up the trio tears it up from start to finish. Irresistible to straight country and pop audiences alike.

TAKING THE LONG WAY
The Dixie Chicks are back with a vengeance - I have never heard music this great in all my life & that's coming from a 52 year old rocker who now loves country, all because of these girls, they have hearts the size of Texas and spirits as great as their music. I would not be surprise if they are recognized as the greatest band on Earth someday. If music had gladiators the Dixie Chicks would indeed be on top of the world * * * * *. It's been a week now since I bought their new album and I can't stop playing their songs, "Every Body Knows" is my favorite so far followed by "I'm Not Ready To Make Nice" - they are both brilliant songs but I love them all. I take the CD to work then I bring it home again ! I've gone out and bought all of their CD'S & I just fell in Love with "Wide Open Spaces" & "Cow Boy Take Me Away" - it's facinatingly great music ! Now everyone in the office wants their CD'S .I can't imagine how any fair minded person could put politics over music this great and Americans this good ! Especially when the politics these days is so full of serious mistakes - the kind that has really hurt us . I can't wait to see them in concert. Thanks Girls ! Ty
A staple for any CD collection- like a favorite movie you quote forever.
I bought this on iTunes to replace the CD I lost. This is a classic as far as I am concerned. A basic need for any CD collection. The upbeat songs (even with the darker humorous lyrics) keep your feet moving. And the slow ones make you feel the pain of the singer's story. Absolutely timeless music. And I am not even a true cowgirl. Just a city girl from Dallas. (I still think this even after the "controversy") The "Chicks" just know how to make great music!
Wide Open Spaces
I luv this album and I think this was an excelent beginning 4 them!! My favorite tracks are "I can love you better", "Wide open spaces", "There's your trouble", "You were mine", "Let 'er rip", and "I'll take care of you"!!!
