Album Review

E.G. Daily is a perfect example of an artist whose biggest hit is not representative of her overall output. When people think of Daily, they think of her 1986 single "Say It, Say It" — a very Madonna-ish R&B/pop gem. It isn't surprising that "Say It, Say It" is as Madonna-ish as it is; the song was produced by Jellybean Benitez (who is known for his work with the Material Girl), and it was co-written by Stephen Bray (another person with a strong Madonna connection). But anyone who heard Daily's debut album, Wild Child, learned that most of the songs are neither urban contemporary nor dance-pop; overall, Wild Child is a pop/rock album. The LP's most dance-oriented tracks are "Say It, Say It" and an inspired cover of Donna Summer's 1979 classic "Sunset People," which has a strong Euro-dance flavor. Daily updates the tune, making it relevant to the hi-NRG scene of 1986. But the rest of the tracks are straight-up pop/rock; that is true whether Daily's producer is Harold Faltermeyer on "Love in the Shadows" and "Is Anybody Home?" or Keith Forsey on "Waiting." In the 1980s, Faltermeyer was no stranger to dance-pop — in fact, he produced Daily's "Sunset People" remake. But "Love in the Shadows" and "Is Anybody Home?" are fine examples of what he can do as a pop/rock producer. It should be noted that "Say It, Say It" is the only song on Wild Child that Benitez produced; although Daily was a big fan of dance-pop, she didn't want to be labeled a dance diva. And those who heard everything on Wild Child realized that urban and dance-pop only account for about 20% of this promising debut.

E.G. Daily's Finest Hour!

OMG! I almost fell of my chair when I found out that this finally made on iTunes! E.G. Daily is an amazingly gifted artist that is sadly overlooked in the record industry. She has a distinct and different way of singing her songs that gives her repertoire a certain uniqueness - something that is mostly missing today in music. "Wild Child" was her debut album in the '80s and is choc full of dance pop gems that showcases her unique vocal prowess. The album also generated her a couple of massive dance hits "Say It, Say It" and "Love In The Shadows", with the later being remixed recently by Solar City into a tribal club stomper and propelling it into DJ favorite and a classic signature dance tune for Ms. Daily. The album also features a cover of the Donna Summer/Giorgio Moroder tune "Sunset People" and "Waiting" - a tune that was featured and included in the soundtrack for the '80s cult movie "The Breakfast Club". Of course the surprises dont end there. You have to listen to the title track and the awesome album opener "Is Anybody Home". Buy the entire release! You'll be amazed and realize that there is more to E.G. Daily than just doing voice-overs.

True 80s gem

E.G. Daily's Wild Child came along during the Madonna hysteria of the late 80s. The hit single "Say It Say It" is a total knockoff of the Madonna sound but it is also pure 80s girl pop-sweet and sassy at the same time. The rest of the album builds E.G. up to be more Pat Benatar than Material Girl. "Little Toy" and "Is Anybody Home" are great rock songs, but "Waiting" is the real gem of this album, the song is big, dark and hypnotic. I paid a lot of money for this CD on ebay and now u can have it on iTunes for ten bucks.

A classic finally available!

Just when I thought that my cassette of this classic was ready to wear out this gem resurfaces on iTunes. Enjoy the hits ("Say It Say It", "Love In The Shadows", "Waiting") but just wait until you listen to "Just For You" - you'll be hooked for good as I was. Luckily the back catalog is also available, you'll certainly need them after! An amazing talent!
