For the follow-up to 1975’s landmark Blow By Blow, Jeff Beck teamed up with fusion keyboardist Jan Hammer to tackle a diverse selection of material. Overseen by Beatles studio guru George Martin, Wired exists at a crossroads of ‘70s funk, fusion, and instrumental rock. In some moments it appeals to fans of Weather Report; in others Funkadelic or Stevie Wonder. One thing is certain: Hammer’s prior experience playing against John McLaughlin in Mahavishnu Orchestra made him a perfect match for Beck’s mercurial expertise. Their chemistry really comes out in the tightly interwoven funk of “Led Boots” and “Blue Wind,” but Hammer also knows when to lay back and let Beck’s lyrical side take center stage. The album ends with a stripped-down, piano-backed ballad entitled “Love Is Green,” but a bluesy, late-night reading of Charles Mingus’ “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat” is the album’s crown jewel.

Classic Rock Guitar Fusion

Funk. Jazz. Soul. Rock. And a look at the guitar instrumentation of the future. A must for all guitar players. An album you can study. His control of subtle amp feedback in select spots is masterful, bringing to mind Hendrix' feedback control during his live 'Machine Gun' at Fillmore East. Beck in the seventies was a Jazz Fusion pioneer of guitar. It's no wonder the great fusion bassist Stanley Clarke named a song for Beck on one of his albums. What's truly amazing about Jeff Beck is his continued output will into this millennium. His last 3 albums of electronica infused rock are excellent. 'Wired' is a great glimpse of a passionate musician having a blast with his instrument.

This album has some of the best guitar work that I have ever heard in my life. Although Beck never achieved the household name fame of his colleagues and fellow Yardbird era friends such as Clapton and Paige, he is still just as talented if not even more. You are not a fan of classic rock or guitar in general if you have not heard Jeff Beck or at least heard of him.

Incredible even after all these years. Best I have heard since I heard it the first time way back then. This guy is one of the all time best bluesy type guitarist of his generation . He should be at least listed in the 5 of all time. After all this time, who has done better? Maybe SRV, Duane, Eric, Jimi??
