A departure from previous work, but still excellent

Walter Meego moves away from the home brew electropop sound of their previous album, Voyager; here guitars take the lead over synths and drum machines. Standouts include "Here I Am", a sweetly upbeat number about desperately wanting to be noticed, and "Starlight" an over the top love song with hints of the Rolling Stones and Smashing Pumpkins.

Overall, Wondervalley is an excellent record, but those longing for the danceable tracks of their previous work may be disappointed.

Brilliant Original Sound

Walter Meego's first album was a great first effort, but it's long term listening value was limited to a few standout tracks. This new release is a brilliant development of their sound, and moves more in the direction of progressive rock. Don't get me wrong, the heavy use of synths and clear bubbly sound is still here, but the guitar and drums shine through more, and give the music a slightly more soulful feel.
This album is certain to be a hit once mainstream audiences wake up to it, and I'm happy to say it's an absolutely amazing album, and I still can't get many of the tracks out of my head. :)

Chicago-based indie electronic duo Walter Meego began when Colin Yarck and Justin Sconza met at the University of Illinois in 1999. After a childhood spent studying classical and ragtime piano (he graduated to rock and jazz as a teen), Sconza played in a number of bands during college, dabbling in a number of styles.
