Album Review
Florida quartet Mouse Fire aren't doing anything particularly new on their debut album Wooden Teeth, but they combine familiar elements in unexpected enough fashion to make the album an appealing listen regardless. Working off the basic template of the emo end of contemporary indie rock, Mouse Fire add smartly catchy pop hooks to songs like the vaguely psychedelic "Comes Around Goes Around." They also engage in a fondness for noisy experimental interludes like the brief, distortion-heavy freak-out "Mexican Weather," but even that 90-second song has a surprisingly memorable chorus underneath all the feedback. At the album's most blandly indie-by-numbers, such as "To Celebrate a Suicide" and the repetitive "Started a Fire," Mouse Fire sound more than a little like Minus the Bear, but singer Joey Bruce's better than average voice (he generally stays well clear of the usual emo whine), the regular addition of piano to the choppy guitar lines and bass-driven rhythms, and the generally high quality of the songwriting makes up for the album's occasional flaws. This is a solid, encouraging debut.

These Guys Are Going To Be Big!
Mark my words: Mouse Fire WILL become famous very soon! I discovered this underrated band on the Lujo Records website and found their name to be similar to Modest Mouse's. I thought hey, why not give them a listen? They look pretty fun. Got to support indie rock bands, right? After listening to the 30 second samples and later listening to full songs on their Myspace page, I learned that this band is very talented! The guitars are very VERY catchy, the lead singer has a voice that matches each song perfectly, and the album itself is just magical. There's just something really awesome about the sound/feel. If you're like me and enjoy the whole indie rock scene, you'd probably write a reveiw similar to mine. Give them a listen. Tell your friends in the future that you liked them before they were cool.
Mouse Fire: Wooden Teeth
2007 was a great year for music. It was an even greater year for Lujo Records, who placed themselves on the map with some great bands: Look Mexico, The Dark Romantics, Pomegranates, The Out_Circuit (most of these bands I still need to play/review!). One of the strongest releases on Lujo Records came right after Look Mexico. Mouse Fire’s debut, Wooden Teeth, came onto the scene turning heads of music fans left and right. Their addictive hooks and creative riffs are enough to make any coinsure of fine music wet his/her pants. Their style is in the same vein as Cursive or Minus the Bear, but a bit more catchy. These songs will stick in your brain. Wooden Teeth is definitely the result of a band that is passionate about what they do. Every song seems to be meticulously crafted and are not the result of a band throwing ideas together. Each song stands on it’s own as original and not a carbon copy of other songs on the album. Lujo Records is building an extremely strong roster, but Mouse Fire stand out in front as one of the most innovative bands on this respected label. Stand Out Tracks: “This is How I Throw My Slider” “To Celebrate a Suicide” “Chicago Ain’t The Answer”
