Tribute to a legacy
The song "World Turns" conveys the optimism of beginning each new day with a purpose. Taking the early subway down to Brooklyn to make millions of people's "daily dose of reality", and concurrently, the actor's daily reality. The actors friendships that were planted in the creation of the show have grown into the ATWT family. But, unfortunately, the daily dose comes to an end as the cancellation of the long running soap opera becomes the reality. Does any of the viewers know that the actors have a life outside of the studio? And how does the actor now contend with the loss of not only his livelihood, but also the friends, fans and family that exist all over the world? The plaintiff strains of the final verse finds the actor riding a late night train back to his apartment in the city. Bone tired from the physical demands of the job and weary from the acceptance that there will no longer be a morning train ride to Brooklyn, Alex makes it clear that this will not be the final curtain - someone cue the music, he still has stories to tell. In the same way that all of us struggle with the financial and, maybe even more so, the emotional abuse heaped upon us by the stagnant economy, he is hopeful that every day brings a revival of opportunity. Not only for him but for you and for me. This song returns us to the time of the storytellers such as Jackson Browne, James Taylor and Harry Chapin. It is a wonderful trip. There is something special about this first outing by Evan Alex Cole. Give it a good listen.
